Do you know what your pet would need if an emergency struck? Have all of these supplies in one place and ready to go in case of emergency.
- Food/Water for 1 month
- Bowl/Can opener
- Calming Treats for Dogs (anxiety)
- Medications/Medical records/Vet info
- Pet first-aid kit
- Feeding and medical schedules
- Illuminated Leash/Harness
- Dog tags with your contact information
- Carrier/Crate/Doggy bags

- List local shelters if your dog gets separated
Optional: Newspapers, paper towels, plastic trash bags, grooming items and household bleach. Additional gallons of water will always be useful, too!

I cannot stress enough the importance of id for your pet. Top of the emergency checklist for dogs and cats is identification. Make sure you have several dog tags with your name and room for a phone, or preferrably least 2 contact numbers. Home and cell, or your cell and a second family member.

If the lights go out you need to be able to see your dog. Make sure your dog is always wearing a reflective collar and better still harness. There are lots of lights available that range from a small disc light that attach to their collar to lengths of neon adjustable light collars. This will help you to keep track of your pets. As well it will help others people see them and you if walking on or near unlit roads.

Food and Water
Stock up on food and water for your pets. Dry food is lighter to carry while can food has more water content. Grab a large bag of off and some cans and store in a dry place and always make sure to rotate the food so it is in date, fresh and safe for your dogs.
Just as you would with family keep water bottles in a safe place. Make sure if your wet dog food does not have a pull tab then have a quality can opener on hand.

A good first aid kit needs to be on your checklist not only for an emergency. It is a must have for pets in the home, when traveling with pets and in your car. A quality first aid kit will have bandages, a guide, antiseptic ointments to name a few things until you can get your dog to a veterinary.

On a personal note I carry Benadryl and a small plastic syringe should my dog ever get a sting bite that may lead to swelling or a reaction. With any injuries or illness contact your vet for help immediately.
Contacts & Photo’s
In the event of an emergency you may need to access information quickly. Have contact on hand such as your veterinary’s phone number in your dog’s checklist in the event of an emergency. Prepare to provide a description of your dog breed in the event your dog is lost. In addition have the name of someone (like a pet sitter) if for any reason you are not able to have you pet with you in an emergency. As well get a list of local shelters should you and your dog get separated.
